Srikrishna panel report on December 31

December 21, 2010 02:22 am | Updated November 17, 2021 03:22 am IST - NEW DELHI:

The committee headed by the former Supreme Court Judge, Justice B.N. Srikrishna, set up to go into the demands for a ‘separate Telangana' State and a ‘united Andhra Pradesh,' will present its report to the Centre on December 31, last day of its term.

Justice Srikrishna told The Hindu from Mumbai on Monday that since Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram would not be in Delhi on December 30, it had been decided to present the report on December 31.

He added that the report was almost ready, and that it would discuss in detail each of the terms of reference.

Committee Member-Secretary V.K. Duggal said the panel's intention was to ensure that the “largest number of people in the State got the maximum satisfaction.”

Asked whether the report would satisfy people in all the regions — coastal Andhra, Rayalaseema and Telangana — Mr. Duggal said: “I hope so.”

The committee was appointed on February 3 this year, and some of its terms of reference are: to review the developments in Andhra Pradesh since its formation and their impact on the progress and development of the different regions; to examine the impact of the recent developments in the State on women, children, students, minorities, OBCs, SCs and STs; to consult all sections of the people, especially political parties, and elicit their views; to seek from the political parties and other organisations solutions to resolve the present difficult situation and promote the welfare of all sections of people.
