Six elected unopposed to Rajya Sabha

All the six candidates --Jairam Ramesh, V. Hanumanth Rao, N. Janardhana Reddy and J.D. Seelam (Congress) and G. Sudharani and Y.S. Chowdary (TDP) were declared elected after the deadline for withdrawal of nominations ended on Monday.

Returning Officer S. Raja Sadaram handed over the election certificates to Mr. Hanumanth Rao and Mr. Jairam Ramesh while Mr. Janardhana Reddy and Mr. Seelam could not make it to the Assembly. The two TDP candidates collected their certificates at 5.15 pm, considered to be “auspicious time”.

According to the declarations filed by the nominees, Mr. Chowdary is the richest with assets of over Rs.170 crore. Mr. Jairam Rameshowns recurring deposits (Rs.20.74 lakh), FDs (Rs.4.21 lakh) and term deposits (Rs.4.03 lakh), but has no house/ land. Former Chief Minister Mr. Janardhana Reddy and his wife who is a former Minister N. Rajyalakshmi, do not own a four-wheeler so far. G. Sudha Rani has declared that she owns two plots worth Rs.9.73 cr. Mr. V. Hanumantha Rao has Rs. 4 lakh deposits and house worth Rs. 50 lakh.
