Sawang unveils Amaravati Marathon Rolling Trophy

Students from 130 schools and colleges to take part in the run

VIJAYAWADA: City Police Commissioner D. Gautam Sawang on Friday unveiled the City Police Commissioner’s Rolling Trophy for the Second Jio Amaravathi Marathon here.

Trophies will be awarded to the college and school, which contribute for the highest number of participants for the run, said race director Nannapaneni Murali, who announced the arrangements for the marathon at a press conference here.

“As many as 10,000 participants are expected to participate in the 21K, 10K, 5K and 3K marathons, which will be flagged off from the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) stadium at 6 a.m. 6.30, 7 and 7.10 a.m. respectively on January 8 (Sunday),” said Mr. Murali.

Last date

The Police Commissioner said registrations to participate in the marathon had crossed 10,000. Students from nearly 130 schools and colleges will take part in the run, aimed at promoting health awareness and body fitness, Mr. Sawang said.

Dr. Ramesh of Ramesh Hospitals said that ambulances for every two kilometres and medical aid on two-wheelers will be provided en-route. Drinking water, snacks and ambulance facilities would be arranged during the marathon, he said.

Mr. Sawang said that DEEP Foundation, CRDA, Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and many other government and private organisations were promoting Jio Amaravathi Marathon. Prizes will be given to the winners in the run in different categories.

Professional marathoners

Many celebrities will attend for the mega event. Professional marathoners from India and abroad have confirmed their participation for the Second Amaravathi Marathon. Elaborate security arrangements are being made for the peaceful conduct of the event, the Commissioner said.

The Vijayawada City Police will impose traffic restrictions on M.G. Road (Bandar Road), Police Control Room, Benz Circle and other junctions and on city outskirts in view of the marathon, Additional Police Commissioner P. Hari Kumar said.

Deputy Commissioners of Police G. Pala Raju, K. Praveen and Kranthi Rana Tata were present.
