Protests erupt in Prakasam district

Activists of Opposition parties and civil society organisations staged protests on Thursday after the Centre ruled out grant of Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh.

YSR Congress spokesman B. Brahmananda Reddy exhorted the people cutting across party lines to support the bandh on Saturday to press for SCS.

He urged the ruling Telugu Desam Party to snap ties with the BJP and join the fight by Opposition parties.

Leading a protest march, Communist Party of India (Marxist) Prakasam district unit secretary P. Anjaneyulu said the “special assistance measure is no substitute for Special Category Status”'
