Praja Rajyam Party (PRP) on Tuesday said it would support Congress in the upcoming Rajya Sabha polls in the State.

PRP chief Chiranjeevi would soon convey the decision to Congress president Sonia Gandhi, senior party leader C Ramachandraiah said here on Tuesday.

The decision was taken at a party meeting here.

Replying to a question, Mr. Ramachandraiah said the party took a decision without keeping any motive in mind.

“Politics is not commercial transaction. Our aim is to create congenial atmosphere between the two political parties,” he said, without explaining how the move will benefit PRP in future.

Kanna Babu, PRP MLA from Kakinada Rural, said PRP and Congress will have an alliance in the forthcoming local body elections.

Congress, which requires a total of 164 votes but is short by six to win four Rajya Sabha seats. PRP with 18 MLAs now agreeing to back its fourth candidate, the party is assured of winning four seats.
