No word on NIPER, tribal university in budget

Though there is no significant allocation to Andhra Pradesh in the education sector in the Budget, academicians feel that there are a few initiatives that will benefit the education sector in the long run.

The major disappointment was that there was no mention of Tribal University, which has been earmarked for Vizianagaram district.

Initial allocation

The government has already identified the land and alienated about 526 acres at Relli in Vizianagaram district, and Mr. Jaitley had allocated ₹1 crore in the 2014 Budget.

But after that there has been no significant development, despite Central University, Hyderabad, coming forward to mentor the university. “We expected that there would be some mention or announcement in the present Budget, ” said a senior professor from a Central institute in Visakhapatnam.

Another area that was left untouched was an announcement on setting up of National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) at Sabbavaram in Visakhapatnam district.

“The starting of a National Testing Agency, a centralised agency to conduct all competitive examinations, is a revolutionary moveThis will bring in more transparency, especially in the setting up of new universities and colleges,” said the Pro-Vice- Chancellor of GITAM University Sivaramakrishna Rao.
