Former general secretary of the CPI(M) Prakash Karat on Saturday charged the Union government with trying to put the entire north Andhra region, comprising Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, in danger with the establishment of the biggest atomic power plant with six reactors at Kovvada village.
He urged Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu to reject the proposal, since it was rejected by the residents of Mithividhi of Gujarat, the home State of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Mr. Karat visited Kovvada village of Ranasthalam mandal on Saturday evening and addressed public meetings both in Kosta and Srikakulam. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Karat expressed concern over the “dumping” of outdated U.S. technology, which had failed in many places, including Fukushima.
He interacted with the youngsters of Kovvada and assured them that the party would fight along with them till the project was shelved. Speaking to The Hindu , he said the issue was raised at the nation-level in many platforms, including Parliament. He evaded direct reply over raising the issuing in the next Parliament session.
