January 07, 2017 12:49 am | Updated 12:49 am IST - SRIKAKULAM:

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said Srikakulam district would witness rapid progress only with the establishment of atomic power plant at Ranasthalam, and the Bhavanapadu port near Tekkali. He felt that the government can create more jobs and ensure reverse migration of workforce only with the creation of job opportunities locally.

Attending the ‘Janmabhoomi-Maa Vooru’ programme in Rajam panchayat, Mr. Naidu touched upon issues such as completion of existing projects over Nagavali and Vamsadhara rivers and establishment of industries. “We won’t allow anyone to obstruct development activity in the backward region. We will give the best package for the people of Kovvada and help them get all the benefits from the government,” he said. There has been stiff opposition from the Left parties to the atomic plant, which plan to appoint committees in all mandals to strengthen the movement against it.

Mr. Naidu promised to provide pension to all patients suffering from chronic kidney diseases in Uddanam region of Srikakulam district.

He said the government would extend bus pass facility and ensure supply of drinking water under NTR Sujala Srvanati and establish dialysis centres in Palasa and Sompeta. “NTR Memorial Trust will take part in relief measures to help all kidney patients. We will try to find out a permanent solution to the problem by appointing a committee consisting of experts,” he said.

The Chief Minister asked GMR Group Chairman Grandhi Mallikarjuna Rao, who was present, to construct a smart township, for which the government would sanction 34 acres in Rajam Assembly constituency. He suggested construction of apartments for poor people in the identified land as both State and Union governments would sanction Rs. 3 lakh per house. Mr. Rao assured to submit a detailed plan for the implementation of smart town concept in Rajam, his hometown.

Earlier, Mr. Naidu tried to test the awareness among the people about government schemes such as Chandranna Bima, distribution of pensions to elderly people and widows.

He interacted with local people, who expressed happiness over the payment of pensions, implementation of insurance scheme and uninterrupted supply of electricity.
