Calling upon people to take the island nation Sri Lanka as their role model in eliminating the mosquito menace, Water Resources Minister Devineni Umamaheswara Rao on Saturday said that the mosquito bite was badly affecting the public health and spreading communicable diseases.
Inaugurating the ‘War against mosquitoes,’ a campaign launched by the State government to encourage people to take the initiative to get rid of the insects at Recharlapeta here, Mr. Rao said that it was not very difficult to keep oneself healthy, provided one adopted individual hygiene and kept the surroundings clean.
Earlier in the day, Mr. Rao laid foundation stone for the construction of a storm water drain at Recharlapeta that would be built with an estimated outlay of Rs. 90 lakh. Later, he flagged off an awareness rally taken out by the students of different educational institutions
Meanwhile, the Kakinada Municipal Corporation has hired 20 private security guards and posted them at the spots where open defecation was going on in the city.
‘Keep environs clean’

Parliament Member Maganti Muralimohan has said that people should keep their environment clean to keep away mosquitoes which are causing diseases like malaria, dengue and other fevers. He said that only awareness will solve most of the problems and people who are having awareness should take lead in enlightening the masses.
Rural MLA Gorantla Butchiah Chowdary, Mayor P. Rajani Sesha Sai and Commissioner V. Vijayaramaraju participated in this programme..

Rural Development Minister Kimidi Mrunalini flagged off a rally at Clock Tower Junction here on Saturday to create awareness among people on clean surroundings and sanitation.
School and college students, NGOs, elected representatives and officials participated in the rally that converged ended at a meeting.
