Kitchen fire: TTD mulls two options

June 17, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 03:05 pm IST - Tirumala:

After the fire in its boondi-making kitchen situated outside the main temple complex of Lord Venkateswara last week, the TTD is now weighing two options — improving the working conditions inside the massive hall or going in for a new complex with the state-of-art-technology.

Going by the demand for the laddus which according to statistics is put over three lakh on an average every day, the management for the time being has decided to upgrade the kitchen as the construction of a complex involves several complexities and is a time-consuming process. On the other hand, the management is inclined to seek ‘Expression of Interest’ (EOI) from bidders before going-in for the construction of a complex. The applicants will be asked to submit a report after undertaking a study of the entire gamut of laddu making, boondi preparation, the magnitude of demand, heat conditions, circulation of air and fixing of the exhaust systems along with their recommendations that shall be placed before a high-level committee. The committee will scrutinise the presentations and submit its recommendations. The committee is also likely to have IIT expert Kondal Rao and a renowned architect from Trivandrum among others on the board as the management feels that every section in it requires specialisation. It is only after the receipt of the report that the management would go in for inviting the tenders.
