Ten-year-old schoolgirl P. Naga Vaishnavi, who was kidnapped in broad daylight in Vijayawada on Saturday, was found brutally murdered by her abductors on the outskirts of the city on Monday evening.
The three-day-long kidnap drama came to a tragic end when Guntur police recovered the girl’s body from the boiler of a foundry located in a remote corner of Autonagar adjacent to the Guntur-Vijayawada railway line on the basis of information.
Vaishnavi was kidnapped at Madhuranagar in Vijayawada on Saturday when her abductors killed the driver of the car in which she was travelling and took her away. Her brother, Sai Tejesh (14), who was accompanying her to school, managed to escape.
Vijayawada police traced the body based on information provided by Venkata Rao, brother-in-law of Vaishnavi’s father P. Prabhakara Rao. Venkata Rao was picked up by police in Vijayawada on Monday morning as part of the extensive investigation launched to solve the kidnap mystery. He is the brother of Prabhakara Rao’s first wife, Venkatramanamma. He confessed that the kidnap took place at his instance and gave information about the location of the foundry.
The foundry is owned by Srinivasa Rao, a cousin of Ms. Venkataramanamma, Guntur SP Shankhabrata Bagchi told reporters.
