The Kula Vivaksha Porata Sangam will undertake a State-wide campaign coinciding with the birth anniversaries of former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram and Constitution architect B.R. Ambedkar from April 5 to protest against the raw deal meted out to the Dalits by the Centre.
Informing this, KVPS State general secretary A. Malyadri said its leaders B.V. Raghavulu and V. Srinivasa Rao would take part in the campaign urging the Centre to undo the injustice done to the SCs and STs, who had been allocated only about two per cent in the Budget, far below the population of the Dalits and Girijans. The enactment of a Central Act on the lines of the one adopted by the Andhra Pradesh Assembly to put an end to diversion of funds earmarked for the SCs and STs was not done despite a promise to this effect by the BJP-led NDA, he lamented.
He urged the State government to come out with a White Paper detailing the allocation made for SCs and STs, the amount released and the actual amount spent so far.
Rohit Vemula case
A year after the death of Hyderabad Central University student Rohit Vemula justice eluded the victim's family even as the Committee headed by Mr. Justice Ashok Kumar Roopanwal reportedly absolved Union Ministers Smriti Irani and Bandaru Dattatreya named in the police First Information Report(FIR). It was unfortunate that University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Appa Rao Podile was honoured during the Tirupati Indian Science Congress, he added.
