The former Kadapa Congress MP and son of the former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy has clarified to the Election Commission (EC) that he wanted to register the name of his political party to be launched formally as YSR Party.
His clarification was conveyed to the EC early this week following a letter written by the Commission which wanted him to clearly state whether the organisation he wanted to register is “YSR Party” or “YSR Association” as the two names were found in the application for registration.
Sources said the EC had also written another letter to Mr. Jagan to specifically mention in his newspaper advertisements (inviting objections for the name YSR Party) that the objections should be made to the Commission within 30 days of the publication of the advertisement. This defect was found in the earlier advertisements, released in an English daily and a Telugu newspaper, where there was no mention about writing directly to the EC within 30 days about the objections.
After waiting for the mandatory 30 days, provided there is no objection, the Commission will proceed further on the registration process, it is said.
Mr. Jagan's uncle and Rajasekhara Reddy's co-brother Y.V. Subba Reddy had given the application to the Commission on January 5 this year for registration. Mr. Jagan's mother, Y.S. Vijayalakshmi, who was an MLA from the Pulivendula constituency and quit the post along with the former, protesting Congress party's “obstacles” to his Odarpu Yatra, is also mentioned as one of the important office-bearer of the new organisation.
