Satish Kumar Reddy had vowed not to shave his beard until water was released to Pulivendula

KURNOOL: A.P. Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Singareddy Venkata Satish Kumar Reddy, sporting a long beard ever since he took ‘jaladeeksha’ not to shave until irrigation water was released to Pulivendula constituency in Kadapa district, declared on Wednesday that his dream was realised.

Mr. Reddy, an MLC of Telugu Desam Party, who had challenged the supremacy of former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s family and unsuccessfully contested against him from Pulivendula, took a vow two and a half years ago that he would grow beard and not shave until Pulivendula received irrigation water from Gandikota reservoir.

The bearded leader prostrated before Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu at a public meeting in Pydipalem of Simhadripuram mandal, thanking him for releasing water to Pydipalem reservoir.

As water would reach the reservoir, Mr. Satish Kumar Reddy said that he would get his head tonsured and remove his beard, and offer prayers at the Sri Saibaba temple at Pydipalem.

Though the TDP had never been elected to Assembly from Pulivendula, where people had been electing members of the YSR’s family since 1978, Mr. Naidu completed the Gandikota lift irrigation scheme and released water to Pulivendula constituency, the native of YSR Congress president Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy, he said.

The Chief Minister lauded Mr. Satish Kumar Reddy, and remarked that he often exerted pressure on him to chalk out ways to give water to Pulivendula.
