VIJAYAWADA: BJP State president and Visakhapatnam MP K. Haribabu on Sunday welcomed the relief measrues announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his televised address on Saturday for senior citizens, farmers, rural housing, women, and small entrepreneurs.

In a press release, Mr. Haribabu stated that the 60-day moratorium on payment of interest on farm loans was a boon to the farmers who were gearing up for the rabi season. Similarly, conversion of Kisan Credit Cards into RuPay cards was a pro-farmer measure, he said.

The financial assistance announced for pregnant women would promote deliveries in hospitals, where both the mothers and newborns could be given best medical care.

Mr. Haribabu observed that the eight per cent interest on deposits of senior citizens, waiver of interest on housing loans not exceeding Rs.2 lakh for constructing new houses or expanding existing ones in rural areas, and other measures came as a relief to the people who faced difficulties on account of demonetisation.
