Goods train derails, traffic hit on Guntur-Guntakal line

Four wagons and one engine of a goods train carrying iron coils derailed at Savalyapuram in the early hours of Wednesday leading to entire railway traffic getting affected on the Guntur-Guntakal section. The Railway officials said that 75 meters of track got uprooted and it would be restored by evening.

The heavy haul goods train with three engines being tried out on this section for the first time for the past one month, derailed at about 5.45 a.m. with one engine falling on its side along with one wagon. Two other engines and three wagons went off the track. The Guntur Divisional Railway Manager Mohammed Akhtar rushed a relief vehicle immediately and inspected the restoration process.

Two cranes one from Guntur and other from Vijayawada were rushed to the site. Ballast change was going on in that stretch of the railway track and speed limits were in place. The authorities launched an inquiry on the reasons for the derailment. Passenger trains were either cancelled or diverted via Tenali.
