NELLORE: The war of words between YSR Congress MLA Kakani Govardhan Reddy and ruling TDP MLC Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy took a twist here on Wednesday when the police seized fake stamps, immigration slips, and other material, and arrested three persons in the forgery case filed against the MLA.

The arrested persons included the main accused, Pasupuleti Chiranjeevi alias Mani Mohan, hailing from Adavi Koyambedu village in Chittoor district.

The two others were typist T. Venkata Krishna and rubber stamp maker G. Haribabu, both hailing from Tiruvalluru in the neighbouring Tamil Nadu district.

Confirming the seizure of the fake material at a press conference here, SP Vishal Gunni said that the accused were found in possession of fake documents and passports.

More evidence would be gathered as investigation was still continuing with three teams formed to nab all those involved in the case, he added.

The case was regarding the allegations Mr. Govardhan Reddy had levelled against the TDP leader in documents he had produced before the media on December 23 last year.

He had accused Mr. Chandramohan Reddy of stashing “ill-gotten and unaccounted for wealth” in foreign countries.

Meanwhile, Mr. Govardhan Reddy, addressing a press conference here, found fault with the police for linking the seized documents with the forgery case.

He demanded that a probe either by the Central Bureau of Investigation or the Enforcement Directorate, or such qualified national agencies be ordered into the foreign transactions of Mr. Chandramohan Reddy to bring out the facts.

Stating that he stood by the genuineness of the documents he had presented, Mr. Govardhan Reddy challenged the TDP MLC to face a CBI or ED investigation.

The YSRCP MLA also accused the government of using the police to file “baseless and unfounded” cases against him.

Mr. Govardhan Reddy asserted that he would take to legal recourse in the forgery case.
