The Congress-MIM alliance is set for smooth sailing in both the Legislative Council seats from the Local Authorities Constituency (LAC) in Hyderabad district where it has a clear majority while the contest from the Ranga Reddy LAC seat seems headed for a close finish.

Polling was held on Friday for the three seats in four polling stations in GHMC head office near Tank Bund (for Hyderabad seat), Ranga Reddy ZP office in Khairatabad, Chevella and Vikarabad RDO offices (for Ranga Reddy seat). The electors include coporators, members of ZPTCs and MPTCs, councillors, Cantonment Board members, MLAs, MLCs and MPs.

The Congress has fielded M.S. Prabhakar Rao, the MIM S. Aminul Hasan Jaffri and the TDP Y.

Mallesham for the Hyderabad seats. In Ranga Reddy, it is a straight fight between Kasani Gyaneshwar (Congress) and M. Narender Reddy (TDP), both of whom invested heavily in organising separate camps for the voters.

A protest marred the election in Hyderabad as 16 Telugu Desam corporators boycotted the poll against refusal of the election authorities to give a postal ballot to their colleague Raja Singh, now in jail for alleged involvement in the recent communal riots in the old city.

Chief Minister K. Rosaiah, K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, V. Hanumantha Rao, K. Keshav Rao, MPs, cast their vote in the GHMC office.

Thirty out of the 157 voters cast their vote in Hyderabad.
