The Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) at its special general body meeting on Thursday, “unanimously” decided to “expel” the already “excluded” Secretary V. Chamundeswaranath, better known as Chamundi in cricketing circles, from all kinds of responsibilities.
The decision, announced by ACA president G. Ganga Raju, came at the end of a two-month-long row and in the backdrop of allegations of financial irregularities, harassment of women cricketers and attempt to tamper with the bylaws of the association.
The ACA initiated the first action against Chamundi on June 18, when it “excluded” him from discharging responsibilities as Secretary.
Mr. Ganga Raju said though the ACA had given enough time and opportunity to Chamundi by way of notices, to explain his stand on the allegation levelled against him, he chose to move a court of law to prolong the issue rather than utilise the opportunity. As the courts of law did not give him any relief, the ACA took the decision, he said.
“All the 38 members (of the general body) who attended the meeting unanimously felt that a person who indulged in several financial irregularities, sent hundreds of SMS to women cricketers and resorted to tampering of bylaws should not be allowed to continue,” he said.
Asked whether the “expulsion” was meant for life and whether it brought curtains on Chamundi’s career as a cricket administrator, Mr. Ganga Raju answered in the affirmative.
