The campaigning for the by-polls to Kadapa Lok Sabha and Pulivendula assembly constituencies has been stepped up with candidates of Congress, TDP and former MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is seeking re-election, making all-out efforts to reach out to people.
Mr. Jagan has been campaigning actively for the last several days, while his mother Vijayalakshmi is also canvassing for her re-election from Pulivendula.
Former Minister Y S Vivekananda Reddy, a younger brother of late Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, is taking on his sister-in-law (Vijayalakshmi) in Pulivendula.
Ministers Md Ahmadulla, K Lakshmi Narayana, senior party leader N Tulasi Reddy and others were campaigning for Health Minister D L Ravindra Reddy, who is the Congress nominee for Kadapa Lok Sabha seat.
“This is a contest between a highly experienced leader (Ravindra Reddy) and a political illiterate (Jagan),” Mr. Tulasi Reddy charged in Kadapa today.
Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy, state Congress president D Srinivas and actor-turned-politician Chiranjeevi would soon come here for campaigning, party sources said.
Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, in-charge of party affairs in AP, is also likely to campaign in Kadapa, the sources claimed.
TDP Rajya Sabha member M V Mysoora Reddy, who is the party candidate for Kadapa Lok Sabha seat, said he would file his nomination tomorrow, the last date for filing nominations.
Meanwhile, police today seized illegal money of Rs 6.38 lakh at Chinna Mandem village during vehicle checks. While 120 gelatin sticks were seized in an auto near Pulivendula, police said.
