Campaigning for the first phase of elections to ZPTCs and MPTCs in 15 mandals of Parvathipuram revenue division ended on Friday. There are 54 candidates in fray for 15 ZPTCs and 605 for 230 MPTCs. Some 5, 79, 755 voters (Men 2, 86, 194, Women, 2, 93,556, and others 5) would exercise their franchise. The polling is from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 6.
While the TDP and the YSR Congress are contesting all the 15 ZPTCs, the Congress could not put up candidates for 10 ZPTCs viz. Badangi, Balijipeta, G.L. Puram, Jiyyammavalasa, Komarada, Kurupam, Parvathipuram, Ramabhadrapuram, Sitanagaram and Therlam mandals.
The TDP and the YSRC are the main contestants. The CPI (M) is contesting 9 ZPTCs and the CPI 2 in the division. The district administration made elaborate arrangements to hold the polling in a peaceful manner at 767 polling stations. It has identified 36 hypersensitive and 88 sensitive polling stations. It has appointed 843 PO and an equal number of APOs and 3,374 polling personnel for the purpose. Arrangements have been made for webcasting at 16 centres, videography at 80, and micro-observers at 111 polling stations.
