AP to tie up with Google for tech support, digital literacy

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to forge a tie-up with the technology giant Google India for mutual cooperation. The government will engage Google as the primary and preferred technology provider for software and services. They will enter into a Memorandum of Understanding at the CEOs Conclave to be held in Visakhapatnam on September 29.

Sources said that the MoU is not for employment generation but to assist the government in the education sector, digital literacy and building mobile websites. It is towards helping the government in building a knowledge society.

Google will work closely with the Education Department for Internet safety training in identified schools, preparation of curriculum for internet safety. For promoting digital literacy, it will provide training for government officials and legislators. The other areas of cooperation are for building mobile websites and helping women get online.

The technology provider will also help in promoting SME Heroes -- by creating and highlighting successful SME stories from the State, hosting an event in the State, building the Vernacular web by providing help to get Telugu content online and converting government websites and e-governance websites to mobile websites.

It will also help in hosting discussions in association with Nasscom 10k on AP becoming a hub for start-ups.

Big ticket event The CEOs’ Conclave will be a marquee event with about 100 CEOs of IT and e-governance companies, including Kris Gopalakrishna, one of Infosys founders, Nasscom Chairman and several others converging on Visakhapatnam.

State government will also sign MoUs with Wipro Sez for providing employment to 7,000 persons, Tech Mahindra (employment to 5,000 people), Sameer (Defence-related research organisation). There is a possibility of a big hardware manufacturing company too signing an MoU.

In line with Mr.Naidu’s vision for expanding e-governance, the blue print for State Enterprise Architecture for e-governance will be launched as also the revamped portals of the State and districts, the sources added.

Taking Mee Seva programme literally into the hands of people, Mr. Naidu will also launch Mobile Mee Seva for online provision of services included in ‘Category A’ like provision of Adangal, birth certificate etc., through their cell phones.
