Andhra Pradesh Revenue Minister Dharmana Prasada Rao announced a relief package to the families affected by the cyclone in different districts. He said enumeration of the property damage would commence once the rains subside.
Speaking to the media after Chief Minister K. Rosaiah reviewed the situation at a meeting with Ministers and senior officials besides Union Minister of State for Handloom Minister Panabaka Lakshmi, the Minister said each of the 71,000 family evacuated to relief camps would be provided 20 kgs of rice, five litres of kerosene and cash of Rs 3,000 for purchase of utensils and clothes. A compensation of Rs. 5,000 would be paid for each fully damaged house and Rs 4,000 for a partially damaged one.
A similar quantum of assistance would be given to families whose houses were inundated. An ex-gratia of Rs 1 lakh each would paid to families whose kin died in the cyclone.
The Minister said officials of Disaster Management Department had been asked to prepare reports indicating the extent of loss suffered in the sectors of agriculture, power supply, roads and buildings so that the Centre could be approached for financial assistance.
He said enumeration would also be undertaken to pay compensation for boats lost or damaged. The figures available with the Government indicated that as many 262 boasts worth Rs 64 lakh were lost and out of which, 260 were in Prakasam district and one each in Krishna and Vizianagaram. In addition, 1,450 boats worth Rs 1.4 crore were damaged. In West Godavari, 5,095 salt pans and 923 brackish and fresh water culture ponds were damaged.
