80 welfare hostel students taken ill

About 80 students were taken ill after they consumed khichdi in the Backward Classes welfare hostel here on Monday. Fourteen among them were rushed to Kakinada and admitted in the government general hospital for better treatment, 20 were admitted in the local area hospital and the rest were treated as outpatients.

According to hostel warden hostel warden Chamundeswari, in all there are 160 students in the hostel from the high school and Intermediate sections.

On Sunday, some students fell sick after consuming pulav. On Monday morning, the students had khichdi and they started vomiting and some of them became unconscious. All the affected students were rushed to the area hospital, she said.

Local MLA Jyothula Nehru, Joint Collector Mallikharjun, and deputy director, B.C. Welfare, Satyanaryana and others rushed to the hospital and made arrangements to shift the 14 students to Kakinada.
