District Collector S. Suresh Kumar has directed officers to take steps to prevent human and property loss when cyclone ‘Phailin’ crosses the coast.

Speaking at a review meeting held with officers of various departments in Guntur on Thursday, he asked the special officers and mandal officials to visit 60 cyclone prone villages identified in five mandals in the district.

Mr. Kumar instructed the staff in all mandals and villages to report for duty immediately, and make arrangements keeping in view the previous typhoons.

Five control rooms have been set up in Guntur district to take up relief and rescue operations, said Mr. Kumar. Later, officials briefed the government about the arrangements made to tackle ‘Phailin’, in the video conference.
