Officials of the Labour Department and the National Child Labour Project (NCLP) rescued 55 child labourers this year. Of the rescued minors, many were girls, said Assistant Commissioner of Labour (ACL) D. Anjaneya Reddy.
Following the directions of District Collector B. Lakshmikantham, the labour officials, in association with NCLP and some NGOs conducted raids on hotels, restaurants, shops, cinemas, industries, garages, farm houses and residential colonies and rescued 55 children engaged for work.
“Some children were working in hazardous conditions in industries and a few of them were engaged as bonded labour by the house owners and were subjected to harassment”, Mr. Reddy said.
Cases have been registered against the employers under Prohibition of Child Labour Act 1986, AP Shops and Establishments Act 1988 and also under Minimum Wages Act, 1948.
He presented cheques to two child labourers rescued during the special drives on Tuesday.
