As many as 50 potential startups and 100 final year students from various colleges evinced interest in the ambitious project taken up by the Indian Institute of Information Technology -Sri City (IIIT-S) to train startups to become entrepreneurs.
Gyan Circle Ventures (GCV), a unit of IIIT-S, invites applications under the Central government’s MeitY Startup Hub (MSH) programme.
The event organised by the institute on the SPMVV campus to disseminate information on these initiatives received warm patronage from prospective startups.
“India has emerged as the third largest startup ecosystem braving the challenges, as the government’s initiatives in the form of reformative policies made it scale new heights. From the 81st position in 2015, India is at 46th place in 2021 in the Global Innovation Index, as per World Intellectual Property Organization. It is time to pursue entrepreneurship and startup by youth to become job givers rather than job seekers,” explained IIIT-S Director G. Kannabiran.
Of the two programmes, ‘Entrepreneurs-in-Residence’ is an early stage startup, which is ready to develop and validate ideas into Proofs-of-Concept (POC), with a grant for ₹4 lakh, besides support for idea development, validation and subsequent development of POC.
Similarly, ‘Startup Grants’ are nascent startups creating minimum viable products, which are supported till ‘go-to-market’ stage.
GCV will provide mentorship and guidance throughout the programme with a grant of up to ₹7 Lakh.
Dr. Kannabiran conducted one-to-one mentoring sessions with a cross-section of participants to develop ideas that included use of advanced IT and electronics in agriculture, health, education and manufacturing.
