With the government giving focus on partnerships in development, the district administration has come out with a list of nearly 40 major industries in Nellore district for stepping up their activities under the corporate social responsibility (CSR).
These industries have been actively engaged in the thermal power generation, ports, edible oils, refined vegetable oils, textiles, steel, wind power, biomass, batteries, footwear, sponge iron and so on.
The district officials have started discussions with the managements of the respective industries to take stock of their social responsibility activities so far and their future initiatives.
It is learnt that, as of now, these industries are primarily active in activities like drinking water supply, medical and health camps, distribution of medicines and so on.
The industries’ managements have come forward to step up their CSR activities to complement the smart village and smart ward concepts being promoted by the government. Considering the bleak financial situation in the wake of the bifurcation, the managements of different industries are volunteering to give their support.
Against this background, district Collector M. Janaki has stressed the need for greater involvement of the major and medium industries in the process of creating basic infrastructure especially in rural areas. Development of school facilities, roads, augmented drinking water supply and other needs are going to assume greater importance in the coming days in the CSR activities.
The officials from Sri Damodaram Sanjeevaiah Thermal Power Station, Simhapuri Energy, Meenakshi Energy, Krishnapatnam Port Company Ltd, Apache Footwear India, Loyal Textiles and other industries have assured the administration of their support in the current drive.
In Nellore city, Mayor Abdul Aziz has been partnering in the development of 52nd division under the smart ward concept. As he is also an industrialist being at the helm of the Star Agro exports company, the officials have drawn elaborate plans for taking up works here.
Joint Collector Md. Imtiaz is partnering in the development of facilities in 51st division. Students from different engineering colleges are roped in to identify the requirements of local people in these two divisions to take up comprehensive development plans.
We are going to take up works under the ‘Smart Village’ concept at Thamminipatnam in Chillakur mandal in response to the call of the government.
