Will construct houses for all on saturation basis in a year: CM

Andhra Pradesh created a record of sorts by inaugurating 4 lakh houses on a single day on Saturday.

Taking part in the house-warming ceremony at the first-of-its-kind gated community for over 4,000 beneficiaries at Venkateswarapuram here, Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu promised to construct houses for all on a saturation basis within a year.

With this, 11 lakh houses had been constructed for the poor. Another six lakh would be completed in the next two to three months, said the Chief Minister, who presented clothes as per the Telugu tradition on the joyous occasion.

‘Dream come true’

The housing needs of the poor would be met in 2020, he said amid loud cheers as the beneficiaries waved “Thank you CM” placard as it was a dream-come-true for the beneficiaries who had been hitherto living in congested rented houses elsewhere.

Even the revenue-surplus Telangana and other States did not dare to go for construction of houses on such a large scale, he said.

The gated community for the urban poor was a model one with all social infrastructure facilities like primary schools, primary health care centres, parks and playgrounds, community halls and commercial complexes.

Floored by the excellent living ambiance located close to the picturesque Penna river, he said he felt like taking a flat in one of the G plus three apartment complexes.

More such gated communities would be set up in other cities, added the Chief Minister, who tried his hand at fitness equipment at the sprawling park there.

The flat owners need not go to cities like Hyderabad, Chennai and Bengaluru as the government had planned to develop “Economic city” with a large number of industrial units so that they could get jobs close to their locality, he said.

It is an environment-friendly housing project as it housed steel and concrete-only houses with Sal wood main doors and sliding window doors using the Monolithic Shear Wall technology.

Earlier, the Chief Minister inaugurated the District Police Office building.
