In a major catch, the Kurnool Central Crime Station police arrested four burglars and recovered 1,502 gram of stolen gold jewellery and 30 kg of silver ornaments and articles worth ₹54 lakh from them.
Pinjari Abdul Munaf, 30, Shaik Shafi Ahmed, 25, Pinjari Shaik Shavali, 26, and Syed Chand Basha, 33, all residents of Pathikonda town, were arrested and property stolen in nine cases registered in Atmakur, Kurnool town and Bellary police stations in Karnataka were recovered from them, Superintendent of Police A. Ravikrishna told the media here on Thursday.
Addicted to vices
The arrested, a water man, carpenter and painters, were addicted to liquor and gambling and committed robberies in houses, the SP said while producing the accused with their faces masked before the media. They sold the stolen items whenever they wanted money for their vices.
Kurnool CCS circle inspector Lakshmaiah, sub-inspectors T. Srinivasulu, V. Ramesh Babu, S. Ashok Kumar and Nayab Rasool and staff arrested the four persons at Pathikonda when they were trying to dispose of some stolen ornaments on Wednesday, Mr. Ravikrishna said.
The SP complimented Additional SP P. Shaik Shavali and Kurnool CCS DSP G. Hussain Peera, who supervised the investigation and the team of CIs, SIs and staff who nabbed the accused.
