In all, 36 students from Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, who are pursuing their engineering course at NIT-Srinangar, are stranded in the Leh region in the flood-affected State of Jammu and Kashmir.
It is learnt that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, on receiving a message to this effect from the father of one of the students, has ordered airlifting of the stranded youths to Chandigarh, from where they will be sent to their respective homes.
Sai Karthik from Chodavaram in Visakhapatnam district, who was among the stranded students, contacted his father Jagannadha Rao, an advocate, over cellphone and expressed fears over flooding of their shelter.
Mr. Jagannadha Rao approached Panchayati Raj Minister Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu for help. The Minister immediately took up the issue with the Chief Minister’s Office and also with Union Minister for Civil Aviation P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju.
Move to shelter Following extensive flooding in the State and their campus at Srinagar, the students reportedly moved to a shelter in the Leh region. As the situation worsened in Leh too, the students sought their parents help.
