30 school kids hurt as bus capsizes near Punganur

As many as 30 school students were injured, four of them with moderate injuries, when the school bus they were travelling in capsized near Katrepalle village of Chowdepalle mandal of Punganur assembly constituency on Saturday morning.

According to sources, the bus belonging to Rayalaseema Paradise School of Punganur, was on its way to the town, after collecting the school students from the rural region. The bus driver was said to have been driving at high speed and lost control while overtaking an auto, leading to its capsize. The incident took place at around 8.45 am. Parents and villagers of the surrounding hamlets rushed to the spot and picked up their children and admitted them to different hospitals at Punganur, Chowdepalle and Madanapalle.

A police official of the Punganur division said that all the students were out of danger.

Meanwhile, the home minister Nimmakayala Chinna Rajappa sought the Chittoor superintendent of police, Mr Ghattamaneni Srinivas to inquire into the mishap and submit a report by evening. District medical and health officer Dr K. Koteswari instructed the area hospitals and public health centers to extend all required medical attention to the injured students, and refer them to Sri Venkateswara Institute of Medical Sciences at Tirupati or divisional headquarters hospital at Madanapalle, if required.
