3% rise in casualties in road accidents in Krishna, says Collector

‘507 persons were killed till September 2019’

Krishna District Collector A.Md. Imtiaz on Tuesday expressed concern over the increase in the number of casualties in road accidents in the district. The district had witnessed three per cent rise in the death toll till the end of September 2019 compared to the similar period last year.

Addressing the officials during the Road Safety Committee meeting in Vijayawada, Mr. Imtiaz has revealed that 507 persons were killed in the road mishaps across the district this year till September; three per cent rise compared to the death toll for similar period in 2018 (489 deaths).

The Collector also directed the Transport Department authorities to cancel the driving licence of those who would not wear the helmet.

The officials of the National Highways Authority of India, Panchayat Raj and Roads and Buildings Departments were told to identify the roads required to be developed and provide lighting facility in the accident-prone areas.

Krishna District Superintendent of Police M. Ravindranath Babu has explained the experiment of deploying the police personnel for 12 hours a day at the accident-prone areas. Deputy Transport Commissioner S. Venkateswara Rao and other key officials were present.
