With the approval of the Launch Authorisation Board, scientists of the Indian Space Research Centre (ISRO) began the 29-hour countdown for the launch of Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle, GSLV-D6, at 11.52 a.m. at the Sriharikota Space Centre in Nellore district on Wednesday.
The progress of the countdown is satisfactory even as the scientists have made all arrangements for the GSLV launch at exactly 4.52 p.m. on Thursday. In its 9th flight, the GSLV will put the GSAT-6 weighing 2,117 kg into a geostationary orbit. The satellite is India’s 25th geostationary communication satellite, which will provide communication through five spot beams in S-band and a national beam in C-band for strategic users. In its present flight, it is going to be the third time that the indigenously developed cryogenic upper stage is being used in GSLV-D6. The cryogenic stage gives greater thrust per unit consumption of propellant.
