The State government on Wednesday declared 274 mandals as severe and one mandal as moderate drought affected in six districts including Prakasam, Nellore, Chittoor, Anantapur, YSR Kadapa and Kurnool.
It declared 58 mandals in Chittoor, 50 in YSR Kadapa, 45 in Nellore, 44 in Ananthapuramu, 40 in Prakasam and 37 in Kurnool as severely affected during the kharif 2018.
Collectors were asked to ensure deletion of notified municipal/urban areas and areas falling under permanent assured irrigation sources. Urban mandals not declared as drought affected shall be treated on par with such mandals for drinking water.
