25 model houses to be built in each district

October 09, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:59 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Calling for quick and quality construction of houses for the poor, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu said that the technology being used in Singapore, Hong Kong and China should be adopted immediately for the housing projects in the State.

At a review meeting in Vijayawada on Thursday, officials who studied the housing projects in Singapore, China and Hong Kong made a presentation to Mr. Naidu. Observing that “high speed and quality construction” should be the watchwords, the Chief Minister wanted the houses to be executed expeditiously.

Suggesting that 25 model houses be constructed initially in each district, Mr. Naidu said based on the feedback from the local people’s representatives and people on the quality of construction, the policy could be formulated. He wanted the unique initiatives being adopted in Singapore and other countries to be kept in view while finalising the new urban housing policy. Pointing out universities in Singapore and China play a role in their public housing programmes, the Chief Minister wanted the expertise of academics in universities here to be tapped while taking up housing projects. He said townships with sports, educational and health facilities should be built on the lines of similar projects in Singapore, Hong Kong and China.

Mr. Naidu said the number of people without houses was quite high in the country and called for quick construction with a view to ensuring that everybody owns a house.
