18 gold biscuits recovered from air passenger

The Customs officials recovered 18 pieces of gold biscuits weighing about 347 gm from the passenger detained by the officials at the Visakhapatnam airport on Sunday.

The person was identified as Abdul Razak Mohammed Ziyard, a Sri Lankan national.

The accused arrived by the Sri Lankan Airways and was intercepted at the green channel based on intelligence gathered by the officers of the Air Intelligence Unit at the airport.

On interrogation, he confessed to have concealed 18 gold biscuits in his rectum and stomach.

According to the officials, the accused ejected four gold biscuits on his own.

He was taken to King George Hospital, where he ejected the remaining under medical care.

Commissioner of Customs D.K. Srinivas said the market value of the gold recovered from the accused is ₹10,56,126.

Recently, three women passengers of Sri Lankan origin who arrived from Colombo were intercepted and gold jewellery weighing 740 gm was confiscated.
