14 hurt as rabid dog goes on a biting spree

A rabid dog attacked as many as 14 persons, including four women and a child, at Bhakarapeta village of Chinnagottigallu mandal on Saturday.

According to information, the dog has been straying in the busy bus stop area of Bhakarapeta, a vital junction between Tirupati and Madanapalle, since a week. On Saturday morning, when a few youngsters tried to scare it away by throwing stones at it, the dog ran helter-skelter, ending up biting fourteen persons in the next two hours.

Among the victims, a 60-year-old man and a 5-year-old boy were severely injured and their condition was stated to be critical. Seven others were admitted to SVRR hospital in Tirupati. Later in the day, the local residents searched for the dog, but it ran and disappeared in the bushes in the Talakona road area. They continued their search till afternoon.
