The city is all set to get 10 more e-bus bays which would set up at various junctions. The Guntur Municipal Corporation, which has set up the first e-bus bay on Lakshmipuram Road, has given the nod for setting up more such facilities. Bids would be called for the purpose under Swiss-challenge method.

“The GMC has decided to set up e-bus bays in public private partnership (PPP) through Swiss-challenge method. The bidders would be selected in a competitive method. The city is the first in the State to get e-bus bays,’’ Municipal Commissioner Srikesh B. Latkar told The Hindu .

Modern facilities

The modern bus bay is an air-conditioned glass enclosure with facilities like free WiFi, first-aid kits, toilets, mobile charging plugs, Automated Teller Machines and potable water. It has space to accommodate 50 persons at a time. The bus bays are proposed on Ring Road, Pattabhipuram Road, Mahatma Gandhi Road and on GT Road.

The decision to go for e-bus bays has been taken to provide relief to commuters travelling in public and private transport carriers. Though the RTC has introduced city bus services, they met with limited success as most people still depend on autorickshaws and private buses. The bus bays are expected to provide shelter for those waiting to board autos.

Under the Swiss-challenge method, the GMC would provide space on the main road while the bidder constructs the bus bay. The GMC gets monthly rent from the bidder.
