Patamata police on Monday thwarted attempts made by an 11-member gang to claim ownership of a piece of land at Ramachandra Nagar in the city by creating fake documents. The market value of the site is estimated at ₹6 crore.

While 10 members of the gang were nabbed, one is at large.

The conspiracy to grab the plot was hatched by three persons belonging to Ongole — Mandadi Adireddy, Sandepogu Ravindra and Ravi — who brought their accomplice Narne Pothuraju of Bhagavanrajupalem in Prakasam district onto the scene, showing him as the owner of the plot.

Complaint by doctor

A complaint by Yepuri Madhusudana Rao, a doctor who gave the plot to his daughters and is holding the power of attorney on their behalf, led to the unearthing of the scandal, Deputy Commissioner of Police Gajarao Bhupal told mediapersons here on Monday.

The accused allegedly tried to sell the plot to one Khaja Madhusudana Rao for ₹1.10 crore and even took ₹10 lakh towards advance. Khaja Madhusudana Rao joined hands with the gang apparently with the hope to benefit out of it in the future.

The accused - Sandepogu Ravindra, Narne Pothuraju, Suddapalli Vijaya Kumari, Suddapalli Gopi Kamalakar, Sk. Abdullah, Nakka Veera Kumar, Marri Ravindra, Khaja Madhusudana Rao, Sk. Sirajuddin and Vellanki Sudhakar - have been arrested and sent to remand. Search is on for Mandadi Adireddy.

Lease

The plot was originally leased out to M/s Aruna Motors, who asked Kamalakar to take care as a watchman who lived there in a shed with his parents Sivaiah and Vijaya Kumari.

The gang started implementing their plan after the company vacated the plot on expiry of lease.
