Police busted a gang of four recently , with the recovery of 60 sovereigns of gold

The recent recovery of 60 sovereigns of gold, with the busting of a thief gang in the town has brought to the fore the fact that youngsters are increasingly resorted to such crimes to afford a lavish lifestyle.

The gang of four, all are below 30 years of age, has been involved in tens of chain snatching cases reported in the last one year from the town, giving police a tough time.

The gang had become quite a menace to the people living on the outskirts of Anantapur town, police said. The gang members were wanted as unknown accused till recently in as many as 18 theft cases and police said there might be some more offenders on the prowl in the town.

However, the police said the accused took to robbery just for fun and to afford a lavish lifestyle and termed it as an disturbing trend.

Constable resort to kidnapping

Kurnool Staff Reporter adds: The tracing of weapon used by former Greyhounds constable Obulesu shocked the officers in the district. Obulesu had taken huge loans with high interest. He tried to indulge in extortion and kidnap to repay the debt.

He was caught while trying to kidnap a business magnet in Hyderabad. In a similar fashion, he had kidnapped a boy from the family of a former bureaucrat and got away with the booty.

While on duty, he had stolen an AK 47 service rifle and hid it near Orvakal. He frequented the city identifying himself as ‘Kadapa Subba Reddy’.
