Responding to Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Amit Shah’s tweet, in which he wondered if Congress president Rahul Gandhi had formed an international mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) with Pakistan to remove Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Congress on Sunday described Mr. Shah’s tweet as “frivolous”.

“In a democracy, for the Opposition, its duty is to expose the government, to criticise the government and to depose the government. That is the responsibility of a mature Opposition in a parliamentary democracy. Opposition is not meant to say that we will have an election and Narendra Modi will continue,” senior Congress leader Anand Sharma said at a press briefing.

Congress communication chief Randeep Surjewala tweeted, “Amit Shah ji , Congress doesn’t need certificates from traitors of freedom movement. Please brush up ur knowledge — Congress taught befitting lessons to Pak. in 1947, 1965 & 1971. You only invoke Pak. when answerless on issues of corruption.”

On Saturday, the BJP chief took a dig at Mr. Gandhi after a Pakistan Minister tweeted to target Mr. Modi over the Rafale deal.
