The All India Women’s Democratic Association (AIDWA) has appealed to the Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram to intervene in the case of Gujarat’s IPS officer Sanjeev Bhatt, now lodged in jail.
In a letter to Mr. Chidambaram, AIDWA has asked him to use his authority and good offices as Union Home Minister to intervene in the case of Mr Bhatt. His wife Shweta has written to you with details of the blatant victimisation he is facing because he has given evidence against the CM in the communal genocide case. “Mr. Bhatt has been sent to jail on a minor offence which is unproven, and is being denied legitimate bail. Not only has he been persecuted by the State government for daring to reveal the truth, but he is being kept in inhuman conditions,” a statement issued by AIDWA said.
As you are aware, a large section of the Gujrat IPS has also condemned the treatment being meted out to Bhatt, we, therefore, appeal to you to take immediate and effective action in this matter, the statement said.
