As aid pours in, the Army continues to feed more than 63,000 people in Kashmir, besides providing shelter to many.
Specialised engineering and communication equipment has been despatched for construction of bridges and restoration of communication links and water supply.
Army engineers, along with Border Roads Organisation personnel, are working to open the link between Ramban and Banihal where the road was completely washed off. A new road alignment is being cut. The Army has also created a transit facility for people in the area.
Both public and private sector phone companies are extending a helping hand to the flood-affected people by waiving calling and roaming charges, Communications and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said here on Saturday.
Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd. is providing free telecom services for a week, while private operators such as Airtel and Vodafone are extending 60 minutes of free talk time every day.
The government has waived inter-circle roaming charges for 15 days and provided five free public call offices at the Srinagar airport.
