U.P. CM counters criticism of increasing atrocities on Dalits

Seeking to counter allegations of increasing atrocities against Dalits, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asked if those raising the issue would show similar enthusiasm in demanding a quota for Dalit students in minority institutions.

If Kashi Hindu University (Banaras Hindu University) can provide reservation to Dalit and backward students, then why not in Aligarh Muslim University, asked Mr. Adityanath, at a public meeting in Kannauj on Sunday.

“Those who are saying Dalits are being humiliated must also be asked when will they raise the issue of providing benefits of reservation to our Dalit brothers in Aligarh Muslim University and Jamia Millia University,” he said.

AMU spokesperson Shafey Kidwai said the university would not comment on Mr. Adityanath’s remarks as the matter was sub-judice.
