Union Minister of Shipping G.K. Vasan has deplored the firing on Indian fishermen by armed guards aboard an Italian ship, and said action would be taken against them.

‘Unacceptable'

Talking to reporters at the Sathyamurthi Bhavan, here on Saturday, Mr. Vasan said, “The incident is not only unfortunate but also unacceptable.” He pointed out that the Director General of Shipping had ordered an inquiry into the incident. It would reveal everything.

The Minister said: “Even in the case of finding a pirate vessel and opening fire at it, there is a protocol that should be followed. This is an internationally well-known procedure. But, it does not seem to have been followed in this incident.”
