Stepping up their parliamentary election campaign, Aam AAdi Party (AAP) held protests in front of the offshore casino jetty in the city on Saturday evening, led by its two Lok Sabha candidates.

The poorly attended protests "denounced the successive governments for promoting Goa as casino tourism State".

AAP activists held peaceful protests during which north Goa candidates Dattaram Desai and south Goa candidate Swati Kerkar alleged that Casino tourism promotion has invited many other incidental woes like drugs, prostitution, money laundering, etc.

The party which began its election campaign earlier this week by taking a stand that mining needs to be taken over by the state and the state must rehabilitate mining ban affected dependents, has announced that it will not seek election funding from mining companies and casinos.

The party recalled that Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, when he was the Leader of the Opposition, attacked offshore casinos as evil but once in power, had failed to move them out of the river.
