AAP heads for split on eve of National Council vote

Sensing that a split with the Arvind Kejriwal camp in the party is now inevitable, senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav on Friday sought to frame the party’s bitter internal battle as a struggle for the principles behind the “movement” which led to its creation.

“The issues that are being raised are not our personal issues. They are fundamental to the movement,” Mr. Yadav said at a joint press conference with Mr. Bhushan on the eve of a crucial party National Council meeting which will vote on the continuance of the two leaders in the party.

Later in the day, the tussle got murkier as TV channels released yet another “sting” tape in which Mr. Kejriwal is purportedly heard abusing his two fellow founder members and threatening to exit the party with 67 Delhi MLAs.

Mr. Bhushan and Mr. Yadav have shifted the burden onto Mr. Kejriwal to decide whether to force them out of the party or convince the cadre that he has acted on their demands.

Bhushan and Yadav raise five demands

Senior Aam Aadmi Party leaders Prashant Bhushan and Yogendra Yadav will present a set of five demands before the party’s crucial National Council meeting on Saturday. They had earlier presented the demands before the Kejriwal camp.
