The BJP on Tuesday attacked Aamir Khan for his comments on a sense of “insecurity” and “fear” in society and said the actor was not scared of anything, but was spreading fear among Indians.
The party’s national spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain said the way Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi had backed Mr. Khan exposed the party’s conspiracy to defame India. “Indians have showered Aamir with love, affection, praise and money. He may use his stardom to make headlines, but his statements are nothing but a blot on the country’s image,” he said.
Accusing the Congress of fuelling the controversy, Mr. Hussain said Aamir Khan should reveal who was advising him to make such statements. “At a time when the entire world is recognising India as a super power and the country is walking the path of development, the Congress is hatching a conspiracy to defame the nation,” he said.
“We do not see anyone through the communal prism. We see everyone as an Indian,” he said. The Shiv Sena, which was soft on Shah Rukh Khan after he made a similar statement recently, attacked Aamir Khan, saying if he did not want to stay in India, he could go to Pakistan. “If he does not want to stay here, he can go to Pakistan,” Maharashtra Environment Minister Ramdas Kadam said.
