Welcoming Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Christmas Day overture towards Pakistan, US said it would "benefit the entire region."

In a brief statement States Department spokesperson John Kirby said: “We welcome the December 25 talks between PM Modi and PM Sharif in Lahore. As we have long said, improved relations among neighbours will benefit the entire region."

The U.S has been pressing India to normalise relations with Pakistan and has been pressing Pakistan to take more decisive action against LeT and perpetrators of the Mumbai terror attacks. U.S. views better India-Pakistan relations essential for regional stability in South Asia, including progress in Afghanistan peace process.
